This afternoon, Idaho Governor Brad Little signed HB 822 into law. As detailed in our [previous coverage](https://theneedlenews.com/2026/03/idaho-passes-bill-to-surveil-of-trans-kids-aiming-to-close-the-social-transition-loophole-2/), this bill is among the most extreme pieces of anti-trans legislation ever enacted in the United States. It creates a requirement to surveil kids for signs of a trans identity, and forces certain entities to report any signs to the child’s parents. This comes a week after Idaho used Trans Day of Visibility to sign into law the most restrictive [anti-trans bathroom law](https://idahocapitalsun.com/2026/03/16/idaho-house-passes-criminal-transgender-bathroom-ban-in-business-government-buildings/?ref=theneedlenews.com) in the country, making it a felony offense to use any bathroom not associated with a person’s sex at birth. This will greatly reduce the ability of trans people to exist in public. These laws create widespread restrictions on both trans children and trans adults. For adults, the new bathroom restrictions will force trans people to use the [wrong bathrooms](https://transitics.substack.com/p/trans-people-are-a-myth-idaho-republicans) on threat of a felony conviction. For kids, the [new guidance](https://theneedlenews.com/2026/03/idaho-passes-bill-to-surveil-of-trans-kids-aiming-to-close-the-social-transition-loophole-2/) for healthcare, school, and other areas responsible for overseeing them will soon force them to report signs of a trans identity to their parents. Both of these laws are among the most restrictive anti-trans laws in the country. No other state has felony restrictions on the use of public bathrooms in this manner. No other state requires that suspected trans kids be reported to their parents. Idaho is wholly unique in this manner.
