- Operation Lifeboat is continuing to organize people and resources in order to get trans people in Kansas safe
The Operation is doing the work while looking for people to help fill the gaps.
On March 30, Operation Lifeboat issued its latest situation update for Trans Kansans and what is being done to assist them.
According to the release, this past week has been spent with a “focus on delivering services to individuals requesting assistance and to continue refining the internal processes that drive that service. We are now actively recruiting case managers, social workers, and other public health experts to join the team.”

Operation Lifeboat is an initiative by trans people and our cis allies to get trans people to safe havens, on our own terms. They help with the logistics, organization, and money. Trans people are in charge of the course of the operation and their own destinations.
According to the report, their highest needs remain fundraising and gaining more volunteers willing to help trans people in Kansas get safe. They have a particular need for people with social work, casework, and public health competencies that are willing to be plugged into the effort.
“Case Manager/Social Worker/Case Worker volunteers: This need is becoming critical; we encourage anyone with experience in these arenas to reach out and join the team.”
In other words, the Operation is addressing requests for assistance, but needs additional resources to do so at the scale of the crisis in Kansas.
For Operation Lifeboat, the goal is– and has been– getting trans people safe.
Brandon Callahan, the Operation’s leader, stated the following as part of the organization’s release.
“On February 18, 2026, the Kansas legislature enacted SB 244, the most sweeping anti-transgender legislation in U.S. history; without warning, lawfully issued identity documents were retroactively invalidated – private bounties were authorized – and restroom use was criminalized in public buildings for transgender individuals. The result of this legislation is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis as some individuals are left effectively stateless.”
