This will result in widespread de facto discrimination against trans people. The number of legal justifications which can be used to alter or refuse services to trans people are vast, and the methods available to trans people looking to contest this treatment are slim.
What do we do when court and legal actions in our favor do nothing to improve our lives on the ground?
In short, this new law cuts across both trans and immigrant communities in a way that is particularly intense and harmful to immigrants.
A simple, 2 page piece of legislation has been signed into law by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis which enshrines trans kids’ right to privacy when legally changing their name.
At least one bill has been signed into law by Gov. Bill Lee. The rest are awaiting his signature or await further legislative action.
